2. Minutes of the Meeting of 26 November 2004

3. Paper on Academic Psychiatry
Professor Taylor prepared, with Dr Lindsay Thomson, an update on this paper for the Forensic Faculty. The paper makes specific recommendations and is calling for ring fenced research training fellowships for forensic psychiatrists.
Action: Paper to be placed on FPRS website once considered by Forensic Faculty.
4 Survey of Lecture Posts in Forensic Psychiatry and SpR Research Interest and Activity
This survey by Dr Gill Mezey and Dr Raj Darjee has been extremely helpful in the preparation of the paper on Academic Forensic Psychiatry.
Action: Dr Darjee to send recent update to Professor Taylor with a copy to Dr Thomson for FPRS website.
5 Specialist Registrar FPRS Representative
Dr Darjee is becoming a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist although maintaining an active interest in academic forensic psychiatry. It was agreed that there should be one or two SpRs on the FPRS committee at all times.
Action: Suggestions are invited for Specialist Registrar representatives

6 Research Assessment Exercise
This is a standing item on the agenda and FPRS will write to the chair of the appropriate committee when announced.
Action: Check committee membership and chair - Dr Lindsay Thomson
7 FPRS Website
The website is available in a draft format and was approved. The registration of the name cost £28.50 and funding for this was approved. Further developments to the website were suggested.

Action: Trainee section to be added with research resources - Dr Raj Darjee.
 : Link to other appropriate sites e.g. Prison network website - Dr Jenny Shaw/other suggestions welcome.
8 Meeting Programme
Autumn 2005, London - Professor Tony Maden - DSPD
Action: Write to Professor Maden and finalise date, venue and provisional programme - Dr Lindsay Thomson
: If Royal College of Psychiatrists again chosen as appropriate venue, liaise with Gill Gibbins, Forensic Faculty Organiser, re booking and catering - Sheila McLennan.
  Conference 2005, Gateshead - Trainees Forum suggested. Bring forward approximately 3 research projects for discussion.
Action: Liaise with Mansi Das, SpR Committee Chair - Dr Raj Darjee.
  Spring 2006, Dr Adrian Grounds. To be confirmed.
  It was suggested that we actively advertise FPRS meetings in Europe. The Danish Forensic Psychiatrist thoroughly enjoyed the meeting in London. In particular this will assist the European training group in forensic psychiatry.
Action: European Training Group email contact list to be sent to Sheila McLennan - Professor Pamela Taylor.
9 Membership
Membership forms continue to be received on a regular basis. These forms are available on the website.
10 Membership Fees/Finance Report
The new system of Standing Order has generated some response although many members continue to pay by cheque. New forms are available on the website and for simplicity of ongoing membership this is the preferred option.
  Professor Don Grubin requested that we open a savings account to receive 2% more interest on our current finances. The current account will continue. This was agreed. In addition, he requested that cheques should be signed by any 2 or the 3 office bearers: President, Secretary or Treasurer. This was agreed.
Action: Professor Grubin to make changes to accounts.
11 Discounted Journal Rates
The 25% discounted journal rate remains in place. The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology has specifically requested a report from today?s meeting on ?Putting Research into Practice and Scrutinising Practice with Research?.
